How to Create That Elusive “Epic Booyah” With Your Target Audience
Believe it or not, there was a point in my life where I “knew” that there was one profession that I would “never” choose: professional speaking! I was the person who could even mess up introducing someone who was about to come up on stage. There was “no way” that I would EVER consider being “that person who was speaking.”
Well, never say never. Here I am years later absolutely LOVING each and every time I have the chance to go in front of an audience and ignite a new spark through my message/ story.
So how did I get there? By deliberately putting myself in positions where I had to face those fears and by enlisting the services of some EPIC mentors, coaches and teachers.
One of my favorite has been the actor and producer Tom Todoroff (Star Trek Voyager, Tin Cup, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and more). The following checklist is inspired by the 15 Pillars created by Michael Shurtleff and Tom to help actors more quickly and effectively establish deep relationships with audiences when having just a few minutes to review a script.
Start incorporating this variation of those pillars into your own talks and videos and watch your impact begin to grow!
____Am I Establishing a Relationship with My Target Client?
____Conflict: What Am I Fighting For or Against? What Am I Challenging?
____Am I Acknowledging You And/Or Your Client’s “Moment Before”?
____Where Can I Find Humor — Even in Challenge?
____Sometimes the Best Approach is the Opposite Approach…?
____What Am I Helping My Target Client Discover?
____Am I Communicating What Can Be Won & The Cost of Inaction?
____Have I Established the Importance & What’s In It For Them?
____Have I Conveyed the “Event” — Why Am I Even Talking Right Now?
____How Does/ Can This Impact The Place Where They are Right Now?
____Have I Used Any Game Playing/ Role Playing to Disarm the Blocks/ Biases?
____Have I Used the Power of Mystery & Shared Secrets to Get Them to Take Note?
____Have I Built In Any Mischief to Lighten Up the “It’s Hard”
____Have I Been Willing to Be Vulnerable and Share Authentically?
____Have I Explored the “Architecture” of the Talk? What’s the Effect If I Change It?
These items are so epic that I have created a pretty, juicier version that is eye catching enough that you just might want to hang it on your wall!!
Now go out there and positively impact the world, you Speaking Ninja You!!
xoxo
